Offutt Cemetery # One
Located in the NW 1/2 of the SW 1/2 Sec. 25, T50N, R9W ( 1/4 miles south of State Hy HH on County Rd 275, 100 yards west of the roadway in a field ) ( west of Hy 54 about 4 & 1/2 miles, a mile north of the Callaway County line) )

Known burials:

1.Boulware, Eleanor Hawkins Claggett. born. 09 Oct 1786 - died 07 December 1857, aged 71 years, 1 month 29 days.
( wife of Basil Offutt b. 1793- married *13 Nov. 1805 Montgomery County. Maryland ( **Married 2nd in June 1855 to the Rev. Theo Boulware, Baptist Minister)

2.Offutt, Basil Z. (Judge) died 09 May 1852, aged 39 years 4 months 4 days. ( Born

3.Offutt, Mary E. (Henderson) - born 05 April 1823, died 23 December 1853, wife of Judge Bazil Z. Offutt

Offutt Cemetery # Two

Salt River Township, Section 31, T50N, R9W.

in the 1930's and 1940's, the cemetery contained 35 to 40 tombstones and was surrounded by a fence. The stones are no longer in place now. *Miss Florence Offutt and her sister Ruth recorded a few of the stones. These transcriptions are likely the only known record of this cemetery.

1.*Offutt, Joseph Claggett** born 21 January 1808, died 28 January 1870.
2.Offutt, Susan Ara, born 27 October 1847, died 20 August 1849, daughter of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.
3.Offutt, Nathaniel born 04 November 1850, died 28 March 1855, son of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.
4.Offutt, Aletha born 29 December 1852 died 13 October 1854 daughter of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.

1.*Offutt, Joseph Claggett** born 21 January 1808, died 28 January 1870.

*Great great grandfather of Miss Florence Offutt. her great grandfather was his son, James buried at Elmwood Cemetery Joseph Claggett Offutt married Aletha M. Claggett 24 or 27 November 1834 in Montgomery County, Maryland, who was a distant cousin.
 

Offutt, Susan Ara, born 27 October 1847, died 20 August 1849, daughter of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.
Offutt, Nathaniel born 04 November 1850, died 28 March 1855, son of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.
Offutt, Aletha born 29 December 1852 died 13 October 1854 daughter of Joseph and Aletha Offutt.

These three children are buried in this Offutt Cemetery # 2, but their mother Aletha Offutt is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico. She was born 13 October 1817 and died 18 December 1890. The names of these three children are engraved on her monument. Two other children are buried in Warren County.

Claggett Offutt was born in Warren County, Missouri August 11, 1839. His parents,
** Joseph C. and Aletha M. (Claggett) Offutt were the son and daughter of old and respected families of Maryland. In 1836 or 1837 they came to Missouri and settled in Warren County, where they remained until the spring of 1846 when they removed to Audrain County.
The had ten children, viz: Laura, William A., John B., Claggett, James, Ellen, Susan A., Nathaniel, Mary A., and Joseph. Mr. J. C. Offutt died in Audrain County, Mrs. Offutt still resided in Mexico.......
In 1863 Mr. Offutt ( CLaggett) distinguished himself by marrying Miss Pinkey J. Buckner, an attractive and greatly admired young lady of Callaway County and youngest daughter of Robert R. Bucker of Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Offutt had five children: May A., born January 6 1865, Ernest born January 18 1867, William A., born July 14 1869, Walter A. born January 27 1874 and Robert J. born April 3 1876. .....................
